Fire Safety Week

Fire Prevention Week is October 5th -9th.  The Pulaski Fire Department came and talked to the kindergarten students about fire safety.  We were able to go inside the fire truck, ask questions about all the different things they keep on the truck, and what a fireman looks like when he is wearing all his gear.

Apples, Apples, Apples

The last week of September we talked about apples.  We graphed our favorite kinds, read stories about going to an apple orchard, and at the end of the week we made apple sauce. It was yummy!

First we had to peel the apples.

Then we added sugar and water.

We all took a turn mixing the ingredients together!

YUM!  We are sure great cooks!

Kindergarten Fun

We have been busy making new friends over the last three weeks.  We have played a few name games to help us remember who is in our class.  We have also talked a lot about what letter our first name starts with.  We read the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom where in the story all the letters climb up the coconut tree.   In the end, the letters fall off because the tree is so heavy.  Students had to take the letters in their name and put them back in order up their coconut tree.  They turned out great!

We also have been talking about rules and expectations at school.  We read the story, David Goes to School.  In this story David has a lot to learn about doing the right thing. As a class we made a list of  rules that we have at Glenbrook.  Each student got to  make a David.  These are hanging in our hallway.  I love how each of them are so different even though they all had the same materials.

First Week of School

Hello Families,
We have had a wonderful first week.  The students are quickly picking up the classroom routines and procedures.  They have been earning tickets for showing expected behaviors.  At the end of the week, students turn their tickets in and recieve a "Raider Note".  These notes are put in the all school drawing for a chance to win a prize.  September prizes include:  Ipad time with you and a friend with Mr. Zurko (Assistant Principal) or Music Helper with Mr. Pierre (Music Teacher)
We also read the story "The Kissing Hand" and talking about how we felt on the first day of school.  Kindergarten is a big change from 4K and many of my friends were tired at the end of the week, including ME!  After the story we did an art project to hang out in the hall.  The students really did a great job!

Gracie felt happy on the first day of school.

Max was excited on the first day of school!

Welcome to Mrs. Kessel's Blog

Dear Parents,
I am excited to have this blog to be able to communicate with you.  I will also send home a newsletter every other week, but this will also be used as a resource for the kindergarten sight words, 1st Grade sight words, websites and apps that we use at school.  I will also post pictures of activities and projects that we do at school!  Thank you.
